When I was a Young Wife

November 26, 2007

When I was a young wife and I got sick, my very sweet husband used to bring me a cup of tea with lemon and honey to make me feel better.  He did this the entire ten years of our marriage (until his death).   I thought it was a loving gesture and I genuinely appreciated it.

The thing is—I hate tea with lemon and honey.  I would have rather he did something else for me (rose hip tea comes to mind).

Sometimes people assume that I do not honor the men and women in the military.  Other times people hear me speak lovingly about the sacrifices of the men and women in the military and suggest that I am confused—how can I support them and still be for peace?

Like my husband’s gift of tea, I appreciate their gift of military service.  I hate it and would rather they do something else (the Peace Corps comes to mind).
