120 Veteran Suicides, Weekly

November 30, 2007

The word is out.  It is no surprise to those of us who have done this work for some time.  Veterans commit suicide at a substantially higher rate than the general population—over 120 suicides per week.

This follows fast on the heels of a report that Veterans’ make up approximately 25% of the homeless population even though they represent 11% of the general population.  Veterans even have a higher rate of MS.

The now nearly 4000 dead men and women from the U.S. military in the current wars is just the bloody tip of the iceberg.
